Left Brain is the Web Log of
Dr. Tim Lapham, a surgeon located in Boston, who is as
interested in politics, religion, sports, love and humor as
he is in blood and guts. He is also co-host of
The Body Shop, a call-in radio program about car
care and health care. As sole creator, editor, web
master, sponsor, chief cook and bottle washer of this
site, he is wholly responsible its content, but
decidedly not responsible for the content of the
comments of others. Thoughtful debate from those who
agree, disagree, or are indifferent is encouraged.
A question I often get asked about this website is: Is your
theme politics, news, sports, love or money? To which I
answer: Yes. My purpose in creating this site was not
hammer home a single point, which quickly becomes tedious,
nor to provide a series of unedited stream-of-consciousness
posts, which is tedious and narcissistic. My purpose here is to write
good solid articles, in the format of an old-style
newspaper column, on things that have caught my attention
in the daily news or my own life and that I think are worth
sharing. These are not necessarily the things that are
making headlines but I feel are interesting nonetheless. I
strive to make each post well-researched and properly
proofread and edited. (I am a left-brainer, after all.)
Source material is embedded in the articles in the form of
links.
Some of the posts are more passionate than others, with
some being of the "editorial" variety and others being of
the "check this out" variety. If I seem very zealous about
medical issues that's because in my day job I am a surgeon
and practically every hour of every day I come into contact
with the failings of modern medicine.
Perhaps you're a left-brainer too? Feel free to note typos,
errors of syntax or grammar, broken links, or any literary
foibles. Years ago I worked as a columninst for a newspaper
and I used to pore over the page proofs, and then agonize
when the paper came out in print and I had missed a typo,
and there it was, set into type for all time. I love the
fact that I can now correct those mistakes with the click of a
button. So correct away! Or just join the conversation, let
the online world know what you think about what I've put together.
Crudity, personal attacks, and general nastiness will be
deleted. For extra points, proofread and spellcheck your
comments.
